The first triennial “Concept” of the Belarusian Union of Artists will open at the Republican Art Gallery “Palace of Art” on November 18, 2021 at 6 p.m. and will present to the audience a cross-section of works by various artistic practices of famous and young Belarusian authors from Minsk and all regions of Belarus who are actively working in this direction today.
The Concept exhibition and triennial presents both individual works and integral projects by authors in various genres and techniques of fine and decorative arts, photography, installations, assemblage, art design, video art, performances and other artistic practices. We give the word to creativity, which feels comfortable outside the traditional classical framework, creates new forms and new meanings. The exhibition is republican in nature, and professional artists, students, and anyone who has passed the preliminary selection of the Belarusian Union of Artists are invited to participate.
Today, art, reflecting modern reality, carries a powerful charge of hidden meanings – philosophical, social, ironic, irrational… Often, the idea goes ahead of the execution. But often artists manage to find a “Golden mean” in order to vividly depict a deep and extraordinary idea. And then the audience, who are already accustomed to the “Mind Games”, have the opportunity to enjoy both intellectual puzzles and the pleasure of special realization.
About 200 authors take part in the Concept triennial. Each of the works presents separate concepts, in which there are experiments with form, plastic, color, light, playing with meanings and tables of contents. The viewer is waiting for metamorphosis, transformation, actualization, transformation. Sculpture and ceramics acquire the features of art objects, painting organically becomes an assemblage, and textile compositions become plastics of mixed media.
In the space of the Palace of Art, one can also get acquainted with the integral projects of individual authors. Thus, the Luminarium art project by Grodno artist Alexander Baldakov combines a series of art objects, graphic compositions and spatial structures with the optical qualities of light and its artistic transformation. The project ”dependence” by Vitebsk artist Valentina Lyakhovich, implemented by the Vitebsk Center for Contemporary Arts, will present her paintings and conceptual objects in the style of “trash art”.
Individual projects and the Concept triennial will open at other venues in the city in the format of an art festival. The partners of the Belarusian Union of Artists are the National Library of Belarus, the Mikhail Savitsky Art Gallery, the City Art Gallery of L. D. Shchemelev’s Works, and the High Place Art Lounge.
